#48. Golem (Not that Golem)--Today's Swarm!--
Choro Notes: They appear in Eterna Forest
Slakoth lolls around for over twenty hours every day. Because it moves so little, it does not need much food. This Pokémon's sole daily meal consists of just three leaves. Slakoth's heart beats just once a minute. Whatever happens, it is content to loaf around motionless. Just seeing it makes one drowsy. It is rare to see this Pokémon in motion. It doesn't change its nest its entire life, but it sometimes travels great distances by swimming in rivers.
Choro Notes: Slakoth are fairly powerful. . . however, they only perform an action every other turn.
Zorak Notes: ~ maxin and chillaxin ~
HulkaMatt Notes: Challenging Snorlax for the most chillax pokémon. Doesn't succeed because it loafs around too much. Make me really tired.
Aye sir, set course for the ferrous isle.
You know, being out here in the sea away from shore. . .
What spooky things could live out here?
T-too grumpy! D:
Qwilfish sucks in water, inflating itself. This Pokémon uses the pressure of the water it swallowed to shoot toxic quills all at once from all over its body. To fire its poison spikes, it must inflate its body by drinking over 2.6 gallons of water all at once. The small spikes covering its body developed from scales. They inject a toxin that causes fainting. Its round form makes it a poor swimmer. When faced with a larger opponent, it swallows as much water as it can to match the opponent's size.
Choro Notes: Qwilfish is another monster I love to draw. They're just perpetually grumpy looking.
Zorak Notes: Its eyes make me laugh really bloody hard, like he's prone to erupting at any given moment in a burst of fish goo. ... Do we ever see that thing deflated?
HulkaMatt Notes: Enemies from Donkey Kong Country that grow really big, explode and send spikes going everywhere. Thus they are probably very dangerous.
You could say that, sir. It's kind of training/unlocking the mysteries of the past.
He kind of looks like an archaeologist, yeah. Like the kind that unearths ancient evils every other week.
. . . he is.
Reminder that Veilstone's gym leader is like, twelve.
Choro Notes: Haha, I have four of these now. One from that cave, and I caught a Bronzor and a Magneton that both had one equipped.
Well yes, but I HAVE one of the two.
ANYWAY, where was that caveohrightitwasattheendofthecaverngoddammit.
This is less fun doing it alone.
Oh. No no no no. You don't want—
Here we go.
This. . . wasn't here before
Ok yes, this is the same statue that was at Snowpoint.
Choro Notes: This Event
I guess I should explain what the fuck is happening! Basically to get this to happen you need to have a certain monster Nintendo gave away via Toys R Us. The game gives it to you at L.100 and it unlocks the option to get into these chambers if you have it in your party.
. . .
Music: Ruby/Sapphire - Regirock - Regice - Registeel
Ok that is NOT natural.
Oh geez oh geez oh geez
C'MON. STOP RESISTING, ROBIT.
Choro Notes: Let's skip to the end product!
Registeel was imprisoned by people in ancient times. The metal composing its body is thought to be a curious substance that is not of this earth. Registeel has a body that is harder than any kind of metal. Not only is it hard, it shrinks and stretches flexibly. Tempered by pressure underground over tens of thousands of years, its body cannot be scratched. Its body is apparently hollow. No one has any idea what this Pokémon eats.
Choro Notes: Fun fact about Registeel. See its Gen4 sprite up there? That was changed for the European release as well as Platinum in all editions. Can you see why? (Nazis)
Zorak Notes: The Golem that's a robot. Probably my favorite of the Regiotrio, to be honest. I bet you can use him as a giant stereo. Ggigigigigigbauuagigia.
HulkaMatt Notes: It's an iron golem
Total Balls used:
Dusk Ball x14
Good to know I was completely right.
IT'S ALWAYS GOTTA TAKE ME BACK HERE, DOESN'T IT?
I wonder how I missed that.
No running through a dungeon for me!
How does the temperature drop even COLDER than it is?
Same deal? Same deal.
Music: Platinum - Regirock - Regice - Registeel
Worth a shot!
Dom, you're tough enough to outlast that.
. . . . oh.
Research revealed that Regice's body is made of the same kind of ice that is found at the South Pole. After extensive studies, researchers believe the ice was formed during an ice age. Regice cloaks itself with frigid air of negative 328 degrees F. Things will freeze solid just by going near this Pokémon. Its icy body is so cold, it will not melt even if it is immersed in magma. It is said to have slept in a glacier for thousands of years.
Choro Notes: Regice are sp.defensive tanks. However, being of the Ice-type is bad defensively since you end up with four weaknesses and only one resistance (to Ice).
Zorak Notes: R-REGI-ICE-R-REGI-ICE (2nd Favorite Regi, those legs own)
HulkaMatt Notes: It's an ice golem
Total Balls used:
Quick Ball x1
Dusk Ball x1
One more and I know where!
Much better than wandering back through the snow.
Oh hey, I haven't been here in a while.
Corphish catches prey with its sharp claws. It has no likes or dislikes when it comes to food—it will eat anything. This Pokémon has no trouble living in filthy water. Corphish were originally foreign Pokémon that were imported as pets. They eventually turned up in the wild. It is a very hardy creature that will quickly proliferate, even in polluted streams. Once it grips prey with its large pincers, it will seldom let go, no matter what.
Choro Notes: The corphish in the Mystery Dungeon series constantly says "Hey Hey!" This is a carry over from its Japanese name. Corphish themselves are pretty cool looking guys. It's very strange to say that corphish are invasive species when I'm literally catching non Sinnoh species in all of its lakes and seas. I guess Corphish makes more sense than any other, though.
Zorak Notes: Another pokémon with a hilariously vacant stare. DID YOU KNOW THAT: the Red Swamp Crayfish was introduced in Japan as a food for Bullfrogs, before ultimately becoming a weird Japanese pet? True. Story.
HulkaMatt Notes: Corphish is great. I love Corphish. They're little scrappers and know how to fight! They're not too shabby and they turn into incredibly powerful crabs that can fuck your shit uppppppp. Seriously, who doesn't like powerful crabs? (Boys)
Cheapsteaks named this
WHY ARE THINGS STILL COMING OUT, I'VE GOT A CRAB WOUND.
In autumn, its body becomes more fatty in preparing to propose to a mate. It takes on beautiful colors. Seaking males can be seen performing courtship dances in riverbeds to woo females. During this season, this Pokémon's body coloration is at its most beautiful. It punches holes in boulders on stream-beds. This is a clever innovation that prevents its eggs from being attacked or washed away by the current. Seaking is very protective of its eggs. The male and female will take turns patrolling around their nest and eggs. The guarding of eggs by these Pokémon goes on for over a month.
Choro Notes: Seaking are underappreciated but really it's kind of to be expected. They did get a tad bit better in Gen4 but they're still use a horned koi.
Zorak Notes: It's dream world ability is kind of hilarious: Lightningrod draws electrical moves to the target, negates it, then boosts their special attack.
HulkaMatt Notes: THE KING OF THE MOTHER FUCKING SEA. One of the only water pokémon I've never actually raised and I have no idea why. Must be intimidation.
Good Listener named this
OH JEEZ, CAN I EVEN MOVE THOSE FINGERS?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
DOM MAKE THEM GO AWAY AAAAAAAAAAAA
Crawdaunt molts its shell regularly. Immediately after molting, its shell is soft and tender. Until the shell hardens, this Pokémon hides in its streambed burrow to avoid attack from its foes. Crawdaunt has an extremely violent nature that compels it to challenge other living things to battle. It will crash itself into any foe that approaches its nest. Other organisms refuse to live in ponds inhabited by this Pokémon, making them desolate places. A veteran Crawdaunt that has prevailed in hundreds of battles has giant pincers marked with countless scars. It is said to be extremely hard to raise.
Choro Notes: Hey I used one of these in the Emerald LP! He was the "Hey I'm randomly using this guy now" member. Crawdaunt are tough jackasses but give me a Kingler any day.
Zorak Notes: wanna meet that craw dad
HulkaMatt Notes: INCREDIBLY AWESOME CRABS. Rivals & Best Friends with Kingler. Crab buddies!!!!!!!!!
Nobody will claim credit for this name
No I DON'T. HANDS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS COLOR.
of time and space.
I'm taking that book and wrapping my hand in it.
I know there were waterfalls over here.
Choro Notes: Only a couple more!
This is Mantine's incense.
I hate this route.
I know, I know.
Music: Regirock - Regice - Registeel (Anime Arrangement)
Choro Notes: To be frank, if these guys were closer to Lady's levels they'd be a problem damage wise. Throwing Dom into the cave wall like he just did actually did a nice little chunk comparatively.
Please be as easy as Regice.
Total Balls used:
Dusk Ball x7
That was NOWHERE near as bad as Azelf was.
Regirock was sealed away by people long ago. Regirock's body is composed entirely of rocks with no sign of a brain or heart. It is a mystery to modern science. Recently, a study made the startling discovery that the rocks that form its body have been found in ground layers around the world. If this Pokémon's body is damaged in battle, it is said to seek out suitable rocks on its own to repair itself.
Choro Notes: I ride a Regirock around in most of my games with Rock Climb. It's like I'm Master Blaster. The neatest detail about Regirock, to me, is it has a scarab-shaped footprint!
Zorak Notes: The most golem of the Regi trio, and honestly my least favorite. Dunno why, just is. Still like him though an- REGI-ROCK-R-REGI-ROCK
HulkaMatt Notes: It's a stone golem
A body of Ice, a body of rock, a body of steel.
Music: Diamond/Pearl - Legendary Pokémon Battle
Choro Notes: Yes. It's really L.1. Which means it's very susceptible to a certain ball!
Total Balls used:
Nest Ball x2
There is an enduring legend that states this Pokémon towed continents with ropes. It is believed to have shaped Regirock, Regice, and Registeel out of clay, ice, and magma.
Choro Notes: Regigigas's ability, Slow Start is kind of a balance to his amazing stats. For a few turns they're decreased as he gets steam going before kicking heads in. Unfortunately in the time this is happening he's usually getting his own head kicked in.
Zorak Notes: The mystical golem that created the other Golem. Even though it's legendary, there are apparently multiples of him (much like the "Regi trio" themselves). I rather like his design, and can sympathize with his love of BEING STRONG.
HulkaMatt Notes: He's a BIIIIIIIG guy!!!!!
. . . . what are you looking at, Viola? Wrestling is cool.
Choro Notes: Yeah we got a L.100 Regigigas to awaken the other three Regi to awaken a L.1 Regigigas. Yes.
