#18. Fog and Rain

Hell yeah, you learned how to suck harder. Good job, Dom.

Alright, now that it's not night and the risk of seeing a horrific phantasm peering through the wall like it were the border between this world and the next is significantly lower.

Music: RSE - Mt. Pyre Interior (HG/SS Soundfont)
Lost Tower just uses the Eterna Forest music, so have this catchy song from Hoenn.

Madam, I am always quiet and respectful.

Out of the way, plebe.

Choro Notes: Say hi to the only non-zubat thing in this place. In Diamond you can occasionally find Murkrow in here at night, while Pearl has Misdreavus. Platinum has Duskull at night but. . .

Haha you think I'm a ghost. Man kid, I've seen things.

Choro Notes: Mothim is the evolved form of male Burmies. They're. . . not that great. (Didn't stop me from raising one.) Basically imagine a Butterfree but worse. Alternatively imagine a Beautifly but slightly better. Either way Campana fucks it up.

Also this barboach which couldn't touch her due to Levitate.

"Heh heh, hey fag. I dare you to go into that forest and pick up litter. "

Haha, it's even got finger holes in it.

Oh boy. Fog.

Choro Note: Fog
Fog is incredibly annoying and it doesn't really do shit. It's a weather effect you can't cause in battle (like rain or sunshine) and all it does is dramatically reduce accuracy. So you can use Defog, that shitty HM we got that I stuck on gligar, to clear it. Alternatively, you could leave it and just abuse moves like Vital Throw, Aerial Ace and Shock Wave which can't miss.

Either way the shit's more annoying than an actual problem.

Oh. I can see slightly better. Woo.

"Gonna break 'dem faces.'

ALRIGHT LETS-

Choro Notes: This isn't a wrong screenshot.

Choro Notes: So uh, did Team Galactic kill a dude's pokémon?

Uh. Are your pokémon all stuffed like that? Wait, are those dolls?

Oh hey, I already have one of these.

Shazam!

. . . thanks.

Choro Notes: In Diamond and Pearl, she actually gives you HM04, which is Strength. Apparently a ton of people missed it since you don't have to climb the tower at the time, and it's maybe once if ever explicitly stated that it's at the top. Notice that Jorge popped out to tell Lady exactly where Defog was at Solaceon. Which, somehow, people still couldn't figure out where it was. So instead you get this Spell Tag in Plat. It powers up ghost moves. That's it. Gastly, Zubat, Duskull and an oval stone. Rowan gives you a Return TM in Platinum so you don't even need to come here for that. Congratulations Lost Tower there's really no reason to ever go into you.

Wasn't that frightening in the first place.
Choro Notes: The Cleanse Tag lowers the encounter rate slightly if the lead Pokémon is holding it.

Music: Route 210 (Midday)

Haha! Ha! HA. HA.

Choro Note: Roost
Roost is Recover for fliers, with a neat added benefit/drawback. It removes their Flying-type for the turn. (A non-flying-type like Illumise that can use it won't lose anything).
What this means is it can be hit by Ground-type attacks and loses its Flying resistances, but also its weaknesses.

Ugh.

Of course it's going to be horses. Of course it's going to be flaming horses.

Slightly better matchup.

Aww, now we gotta shoot the lil fella.

Choro Note: Weather Effects and Rain
Weather effects have different benefits and problems for different monsters with different moves. Rain is generally a great benefit for water types, while Fire-types (and in a sort of way, grass types) are in trouble.
Rain Dance calls a rainstorm that rages for a few turns. In the rain Water-type moves have their powers boosted, while Fire-type moves are halved. Extra benefits include the move Thunder gaining 100% accuracy and the ability to smash through Protect and Detect. A few abilities also trigger in the rain like Ludicolo's Rain Dish and Parasect's Dry Skin restoring HP each turn.

A Water Gun and Rock Throw later and these suckers were toast.

Oh hey, a café. Let's—

Uhhhh.

. . . Let's go east after our café visit.

Oh, well.

Choro Note: Moomoo Milk owns and I bought two dozen.

Yes. Yes I have.

I saw a hiker try to scale it. He was engulfed. I don't see how he could have survived.

What is WRONG with people on this side of Mt. Coronet?

Choro Notes: Route 215 has something special about it. It's always raining here.

And the bugs are fucking huge.

Scyther

Scyther is blindingly fast—when it moves, it leaves only a blur. Its blazing speed enhances the effectiveness of the twin scythes on its forearms. This Pokémon's scythes are so effective, they can slice through thick logs in one wicked stroke. The scythes become increasingly sharp by cutting through hard objects. If it hides in grass, its protective coloration makes it invisible. It very rarely spreads its wings to fly.
Choro Notes: Scyther are so fucking cool. Giant, knife-armed ninja mantis fuck yea. Their Technician ability is neat. Any move with power 60 or less gets a strength boost of 50%. So a Bug Bite or Aerial Ace from a Scyther is not something you want to be on the receiving end of.
HulkaMatt Notes: One of the best bug pokemon. Easily. HAS 2 KNIFES FOR ARMS. He is like warlen TIMES TWO!!! TWO KNIVES!!! Wanna see this bug play basketball.
tyrsHTML named this.

Thief.

. . . what's with the occasional knowing laughter and accusing look?

"But that fuckin' bird has it coming."

"That bird's gotta leave eventually, and then I'll have full access to his home, muahahaha~"

Hey yeah, we're not gonna fight you.

Choro Notes: Obviously the Fighting-type plate.

Plate count so far:

Stupid fox thing.

Kadabra

Kadabra holds a silver spoon in its hand. The spoon is used to amplify the alpha waves in its brain. Without the spoon, the Pokémon is said to be limited to half the usual amount of its telekinetic powers. Kadabra emits a peculiar alpha wave if it develops a headache. Many odd things happen if this Pokémon is close by. For example, it makes clocks run backwards and an eerie shadow appears on TV screens. Seeing the shadow is said to bring bad luck. Only those people with a particularly strong psyche can hope to become a Trainer of this Pokémon. It is rumored that a boy with psychic abilities suddenly transformed into Kadabra while he was assisting research into extrasensory powers.
Choro Notes: Kadabra's design is so much cooler than Alakazam, in my opinion. (Haunter and Graveler have the same case.) I say it almost every time in these LPs since these fuckers are in every regional pokédex but they're absurdly strong special attackers. Comparative to Charizard even, just keep them away from physical attacks.
HulkaMatt Notes: An asset to any team. Really fast and really powerful. Look awesome. Extremely overpowered in R/B. They're amazing. For real they're def. among my favorites.

This rain is terrible.

Choro Notes: Shock Wave is a moderately powered special Electric-type move. It has the added effect of never missing. Helpful indeed.

GIANT MANTIS. MAGICAL FOX. FAT MOUSE.

Marill

Marill's oil-filled tail acts much like a life preserver. If you see just its tail bobbing on the water's surface, it's a sure indication that this Pokémon is diving beneath the water to feed on aquatic plants. When fishing for food at the edge of a fast-running stream, Marill wraps its tail around the trunk of a tree. This Pokémon's tail is flexible and configured to stretch. Marill's body is covered with water-repellent fur. Because of the fur, it can swim through water at high speed without being slowed by the water's resistance.
Choro Notes: I really don't have much to say about Marill. Its ability Huge Power doubles its attack stat, so it got a benefit from physical water-type attacks. But really not much else to say.
HulkaMatt Notes: A BLUE PIKACHU! I TOLD YOU THEY EXISTED! I TOLD YOU!
Chibs named this I think, I could be wrong.

There's already way too much pink on this team but you can get in the ball for science I guess.

Lickitung

Lickitung's tongue can be extended like a chameleon's. It leaves a tingling sensation when it licks enemies. Instead of hands, it uses its tongue, which is twice its height. Its sticky saliva grips anything. Whenever Lickitung comes across something new, it will unfailingly give it a lick. It does so because it memorizes things by texture and by taste. It is somewhat put off by sour things. When it extends its tongue fully, its tail quivers. There is a possibility they are connected.
Choro Notes: I've always liked Lickitung's design, but he's always been a little on the weak side until gen4. He also gained an evolution, which is the only normal-type that can use Explosion for the same-type bonus. Weird thing
HulkaMatt Notes: In the original games this fucker was only obtainable by trading with some crazy buttface. I always thought they were so cool. I've made it a point to catch them any time i see one in any new game but then never actually use them.
Midboss named this

Alright, Veilstone City. Let's see what sort of mischief a kid and a giant cricket can get into here.
