Prologue

Deep in the mountains in a country in the East, the Hakurei Shrine was (mostly) peaceful.

The shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine, Reimu, was always getting wrapped up in strange circumstances (though it should be noted she was a bit strange herself), so her free time was when things were peaceful.

"Ah, what am I going to do with all this time on my hands. I wonder when something exciting is going to happen."

When the master is idle, something has to happen.
Reimu thought she'd get out of the shrine for a while instead of sweeping the garden, and so stumbled upon some ruins.

Reimu: "Wait, what are these ruins doing next to the shrine. They weren't there yesterday!!"
(something happens!)

Mima: "Oh, Reimu. So you came, too."

Reimu: "Great, it's Mima. Hmm, actually, it looks like there's a lot of people here ... "
Reimu: "Man, what is it with this ruins?"


Mima: "It's said that something is asleep deep in these ruins that will grant happiness to whoever comes to visit it."

Reimu: "Whatever, that sounds like something someone would say to get people to join a cult. Besides, none of this was even here yesterday. So what's up with that so-called prophesy?"

Mima took out a folded piece of paper from her pocket. Reimu took it and unfolded it.

This was written on the paper:

Reimu: "Hm!"

Reimu: "What's with these pamphlets? (How is this some sort of ancient prophesy?) How can ruins have a grand opening? And none of this was here yesterday! How can you all be taken in by something that's so obviously suspicious!?"

Marisa: "Hm, so Reimu's not interested. That must mean ... "

Reimu: " ... who said I'm not interested?"

Reimu: "Er, actually, I'm pretty busy (not), but having ruins suddenly pop up here is a pain to deal with. I have my complaints, you know."

Mima: "Isn't it almost time for the grand opening? I don't see an entrance anywhere. I guess we'll have to wait for now."

Reimu: (Man, when did this ... well, I guess this is pretty normal around here ... huh?)

Reimu: " ... it looks like there's a notice posted over here."
Marisa: "Wow, really? Hey, what's it say?"

A Shrine Maiden of the Hakurei Shrine who possesses an innate spiritual power but lacks training.

She exterminates Youkai by attacking with amulets, firing her Spiritual Attacks,
and utilizing the power of the Yin-yang Orb.

She's an optimist. She faces some strange incidents, but she enjoys them.
As usual, she (somehow) fights while riding on a turtle.

This time, she feels somewhat suspicious, yet she's excited about the incident.

An evil spirit that resents the Hakurei Shrine, or at least used to. As she's been an evil spirit for such a long time, her evilness has completely fallen off of her.

Now she enjoys her days making fun of Reimu. She is like the deity (evil deity) of the Shrine by now, though her personality is more human-ish than human.

As strange things are happening again, she is looking forward to more upcoming events.

She is quite an ordinary human girl, who can just control some devastating magic.

As is the nature of magicians, she is very intelligent, but does NOT act cynically nor set off cobalt bombs with shouts of "Fuck you, Human!!"

This time, she is interested in the magic power flowing out of Fantasic Ruin.

Ellen is a witch who never grows old. To make up for it, she lives for a very long time. She does not have a very good memory. She forgets big blocks of her memories, one after the other, she says.

Because of that, she is always a child. (She is from Ha○raki○no.)

As such, Ellen is a splendid witch. She is still continuing to be useful for a very long time.

For today, she has fluffy, popping magic.

A princess who's always a little bit "off". Since her personality is something of failure, she doesn't get out to meet people often, so no one really knows what she's like. Beyond that, as a proprietor of feelings most people don't have, she's something of a collector of things normal people don't find interesting.

In other words, she's a (genuine) collection freak.

I wonder why she's going to the ruins this time. (Could be just on a whim.)

She thought she'd come see what all the fuss was about ...

There aren't a lot of people in this world that believe in science. Magic rules supreme.
Rikako is one of those rare believers in science in this world. She herself believes that there must be some power beyond magic.
However, she is also a magic user, and a fairly powerful one at that.
Setting aside science for a moment, when she gets serious with her magic power,
nothing can stop her, but she doesn't really like magic so this doesn't happen often.

She believes that these ruins were created by science, but ...

 A girl with a somewhat odd way with words. She's Yumemi's rather outspoken assistant; she seems to be able to speak frankly with her. She may look immature, but she's 15 (probably immature). She left graduate school and works as an assistant at a university. (In this world, you graduate from college at 11, and leave graduate school at 13.) She's specializing in comparative physics, so she's obviously pretty sharp.

Right now her primary tasks are things like organizing the data Yumemi collects.

 She teaches comparative physics at the University. She doesn't look it, but she's already 18, which is
quite young to be a professor. In Yumemi's world, all the forces such as gravity, electromagnetism, and atomic
power have been resolved under a unified theory, which has been proven to explain all known forces in
the world. Yumemi believes there may be a force that doesn't fit in this theory - "magic". However, when
she announced her theory to the academic community, she became a laughingstock.

Yumemi came to this world to get even with academe, but...

A turtle who's lived a long life and gained many powers.
Reimu captured him one day during training and has worked him hard ever since.
He has the power to fly freely through the sky.

This game is very different from standard Touhou games. It is a head to head vs shooter, where two people on a split screen shoot/ avoid bullets while causing effects on the others screen. The object is to cause the other person to lose all their health points.

The combat system is... complex, to say the least. Once I get around to posting a video (probably later this week), I will most likely not spend time much trying to explain the system because there are so many damn little intricacies to it (I'd almost say too much).

The game was made with a 2 person vs mode intended, but I'm fairly certain there's no way to go about doing it over the net. However, feel free to record yourself playing story mode anyway. I will not be getting each character's unique ending. I will probably only play through as Reimu and Marisa and maybe one more.

The game is short, but has a lot of re-playability, so we may be coming back to this occasionally as we continue on with other Touhous. Also: it isn't necessary to no-continue to get the endings, as the game is a lot more point focused. I probably will not be focusing on trying to 1cc it just because a LOT of the game comes down to random chance unless you know each little thing very well.
