#13. Carry on Wayward Cave

uhhhhhh

request.

A bunch. I've had a snapping turtle, bigger snapping turtle, psychic cat, guinea pig, tiny bird, electric cat, electric little lion, caterpillar, cocoon, slightly different color cocoon, butterfly, obnoxious parrot, otter, sea slug, squirrel, bunny, ghost, electric ghost, balloon ghost, platypus with a headache, bat, yogi, muscle dude, baby bell, cricket, knife cricket, moai, baby rose, useless carp, egg baby, cat turd covered in leaves, bumblebee cluster, mirror that stares at things, conjoined cherries, flaming horse, giant rock snake, rock with arms

Oh. OH! you were counting the flaming monkey, tiny penguin, skunk, bigger skunk, cat, fatter cat, larger bat, rose, hero rose, cherry in a blossom, micropachycepahlosaur, goldfish, egg giving thing and monkey with an arm coming out of its butt too. Shoulda just said so.

Oh! Hey. uh. . . yea. I'll. . . do. . . something with this.

Ok, geez fine.
Music: Bicycle Theme

Ok, this is way to downhill of a grade.

Well one makes me all sweaty and gross.

...I MEANT CYCLING THERE. NO.

Well hey this could be useful.

Yep. Useful.
Choro Notes: It won't be useful. Block prevents the opponent from switching out and wild pokémon seldom flee. (The ones that do are way faster than Nosepass.) And Trainers seldom switch out.

"YOUR COAT IS RED! I like things. "

Now what? B(

Not gonna happen.

I hate bikes.

Oh hey, this is that patch north of Oreburgh City.

Well hey, let's go up under the bike path.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Gligar

Gligar usually clings to cliffs. When it spots its prey, it spreads its wings and glides silently down to attack. This Pokémon hangs on to the face of its foe using its clawed hind legs and the large pincers on its forelegs, then injects the prey with its poison barb. It prefers striking foes in the face if able. When it is done gliding, it hops along the ground back to its nest.
Choro Notes: Gligar's a neat little fella. They're got the weird Ground/Flying type, however they don't actually learn a damaging Flying or Ground-type move without TMs. Either way they're still a tough little monster.

HulkaMatt Notes: GLIGAR ARE FUCKING INSANE. I always have referred to them as "those purple motherfuckers". I like them. Just watch out because THEY'RE FLYING FUCKING SCORPIONS
Zorak named this.

Oh look. A hole. Maybe we can hide my deformities within it.

Darkness. . .
Music: A Cave's Music

. . . Dom why can you learn this?

Lots and lots of lost and lost.

Oh hey guess what

Takes care of that annoyance.

They should hang paintings or something in here, dang.

...

Just don't hold me back.

Yep, those are pretty nice I guess. C'mon let's go.

. . .uh, Yeah.

Alright, just keep your bidoof or whatever out of the w-

Choro Notes: Yeah, Mira actually has a Kadabra. Kadabra are strong special-attackers and she can easily one shot anything in this cave except for Bronzor. It's equipped with Shock Wave for two-shotting those, though.

Oh no flipping way. You have a Kadabra and you're lost in a cave?

Well great Dom. Way to go. That does not help us escape that biker gypsy's curse.

...confidence level dropping.

OH C'MON. I'LL EVEN GIVE HER ONE.

your Pokémon?

I dunno, c'mon Mira let me think of a way out of this mess.

FINALLY. An honest scout to lead us out.

. . .somewhere a trendy gypsy is on her bike cackling.

Well woopty freaking doo.

Oh sweet baby Jesus yeeee~s.

Eh, Karma will reward me. That had to have gotten me somewhere.

...

...

Hey what's over here?

Choro Notes: Yep. There's a hidden entrance into Wayward Cave under the bicycle path here. A few NPCs mention it. In Diamond/Pearl you'd have no need to come here at this time but Platinum removed an obstacle.

Choro Notes: The Dusk Stone evolves Misdreavus and Murkrow. . . who I can't catch in Platinum. This stone is useless to me so I'm selling it.

Choro Notes: And this is ONE of the reasons that the cave was blocked off until later in Diamond/Pearl. . .

Gible

Gible nests in horizontal holes warmed by geothermal heat. Foes who get too close can expect to be pounced on and bitten. It attacks using its huge mouth. While its attacks are powerful, it often hurts itself out of clumsiness, too.
Choro Notes: Gible is the basic stage of this Gen's pseudo-legendary. (That is, he's the equivalent of Dratini.) Interestingly, in Diamond and Pearl they're unobtainable until later, due to a boulder requiring Strength to move blocking the cave. They're round, angry, voracious little buggers. Huh, they remind me of someone. . .

HulkaMatt Notes: Fat little guys with red tummies. Another cute looking pokemon from this generation, but this one I actually want to raise!!! THEY ROCK.

Biking over 2x4s in a dark cave that nobody knows I'm at full of voracious little monsters.
(())

Choro Notes: THIS is the second thing. Having Earthquake early can and will absolutely wreck opposing trainers. It's a very strong move.

-LATER-

Do you want me to list them?

I didn't ask you that, Lucas.

Hm.

[>Left

Choro Notes: The VS seeker lets you rechallenge trainers, however it needs to be charged by walking.

Yes. It sucks.

"It's totally not something that lets me track draculas."

". . .like Draculas."

Choro Notes: So here's the Dowsing Machine. It's the Gen4 answer to the Itemfinder.

Touch the screen, see dots. Line up with dots aaaand:

Free items! That second dot is up on that ledge so. . . vOv

. . .it's so fluffy. . .

Clefairy

On every night of a full moon, groups of this Pokémon come out to play. When dawn arrives, the tired Clefairy return to their quiet mountain retreats and go to sleep nestled up against each other. It is said that happiness will come to those who see a gathering of Clefairy dancing under a full moon. The moonlight that it stores in the wings on its back apparently gives it the ability to float in midair. Its adorable behavior and cry make them highly popular as pets. However, this cute Pokémon is rarely found.
Choro Notes: Cute, lil' Clefairy. They gained a unique ability in Magic Guard in Gen4. It negates damage to Clefairy that's not directly based on an attack. So Poison, Burn, Fire Spin-type attack's trap effects, Recoil, weather damage. All the fun stuff that's not actually done BY the initial attack is blocked.

HulkaMatt Notes: Clefairy are pretty cool. The first time I saw a clefairy I distinctly remember putting down my gameboy and being like OH MY GOD IT'S A CLEFAIRY. Clefairy then proceeded to kick my ass and double slap all my pokemon to 0 hp. THEY'RE TOUGH MAMMA JAMMAS.

Huh, items hidden everywhere.

Oh no, it's Mr. Anime.

Newly-created Sinnoh =/= Newly-created World.

...except for the horrible chaos of creation.

Man, what the heck just happened.

Hmm?

Choro Notes: Mt. Coronet, like I stated earlier, has strange magnetic properties that affect Pokémon that utilize magnetism. Nosepass only needs to level up within it and you'll get. . .

Probopass

It exudes strong magnetism from all over. Probopass controls three units called Mini-Noses using magnetic force. With them, it can attack the foe from three directions.
Choro Notes: Big, Rock/Steel type means it has a bunch of weaknesses but the things it resists it resists well. Is it really an offensive stereotype, though? Nah, just a horrible coincidence. While Nosepass is just a Moai, Probopass is a Moai with a Pukao hat and an iron filing mustache on it.

HulkaMatt Notes: HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THAT MUSTACHE. HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT!!!

Made it through the mountain with My Magnetized Metallic Moai Mate, Moaniki.

Pinap Berry

It is said that when the sour skin is peeled, this spicy Berry can be crushed to make medicine.
Used in Cooking.

Nanab Berry

Bitter, but with a trace of sweetness, the Nanab Berry was the seventh to be discovered in the world.
Used in Cooking.

Yes. (No.)

Choro Notes: Does exactly what she said

Oop, no ripe ones. Go figure.

I've never been a fan of using mulch. It affects the rate you need to water berries/their growth speed.

Catching shit time!

Roselia

Roselia shoots sharp thorns as projectiles at any opponent that tries to steal the flowers on its arms. The thorns on this Pokémon's head also contain a vicious poison. The aroma of this Pokémon brings serenity to living things. The stronger its aroma, the healthier the Roselia is. Roselia raised on clean drinking water are known to grow vividly colored flowers. On extremely rare occasions, a Roselia is said to appear with its flowers in unusual colors.
Choro Notes: I've always liked Roselia and so did Game Freak, gaining both a baby form AND an evolved form in Gen4. They're mostly your standard Grass/Poison type. Neat little fact, their Pokédex entry in Gen3 is one of the first times shiny pokémon were mentioned officially.

HulkaMatt Notes: If you don't have a grass pokemon by this point Roselia is I guess a good one. I never really raised one or had much of a desire to raise one. They seem pretty nice though!!!!

Bibarel

Bibarel makes its nest with mud and stacks of branches and roots it has cut up with its sharp incisors. A river dammed by Bibarel will almost never overflow its banks, which is appreciated by people nearby. It is known as an industrious worker. While its movements out of water are sluggish, it can swim as fast as any Feebas.
Choro Notes: A derp a doof a derp.

HulkaMatt Notes: DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF THEY DONT EVEN GOT DOOF IN THEY NAME DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF BARREL
MinusX named this

Some sort of cancer patient, crammed in a ball.
Ralts

Ralts senses the emotions of people using the horns on its head. This Pokémon rarely appears before people. But when it does, it draws closer if it senses that the person has a positive disposition. It takes cover if it senses any hostility. If its trainer is in a cheerful mood, this Pokémon grows cheerful and joyous in the same way.
Choro Notes: I like Ralts. They're freaky lil humanoid things with bowl haircuts and horrible cranial projections. They weren't part of the original Sinnoh dex and don't appear in Diamond/Pearl until post game.

HulkaMatt Notes: Ralts? I think they're just swell.
Named by Magikarpal Tunnel

Yes sir!

A battle you say?!

!!!

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . .Magnificent. I would pay all of my rubies and pearls for such a piece, sir.

Choro Notes: Ok, the Odd Keystone. Coming up is a place we can place the keystone. What we'd need to do next is go into the Underground—which I can't do, remember—and speak with 32 people over local wifi. It can be the same person but it's gotta be 32. Inspect the place you placed the Keystone and out pops Spiritomb. A tank of a Ghost/Dark-type Pokémon made of 108 evil spirits. Fuck. That. Shit.

...Oh boy, I've seen those on TV.

Keep your head up, Viola. We're in the 'hood.
